Fire Extinguisher Servicing FAQs
How often do Fire Extinguishers need to be serviced?
You have a legal obligation to ensure your Fire Extinguishers are serviced every 12 months by a qualified engineer in accordance with BS5306.
Who can service Fire Extinguishers?
Anyone servicing Fire Extinguishers must be qualified to do so. Meekol engineers are BAFE qualified and hold the necessary insurances for carrying out the service. Fire Extinguishers are highly pressurised and should not be tampered with by untrained person due due to the risk of serious injury.
What is the life span of a Fire Extinguisher?
Most Fire Extinguishers require an “extended service” or replacing every 5 years. This is increased to 10 years for CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) Extinguishers.
I think one of my Fire Extinguishers may have been discharged or tampered with. What should I do?
It is very important that all Fire Extinguishers within your business premises are maintained and available for immediate use. If you believe an extinguisher may have been tampered with, discharged or suffered any damage please call us on 03335 77 17 67 to arrange for an engineer to attend site and service the extinguisher.
Can I remove some Fire Extinguisers from my premises as I feel I have too many?
We are able to advise you as to the correct number, type and location of Fire Extinguishers which should be on site. There are minimum legal requirements in this respect and removal should only be done by a qualified engineer after calculating the minimum requirements. Please contact us to discuss this further.
